The City of Leander has revised the enforcement procedures for the City’s ordinances in an effort to increase compliance and quality of life through out our community. If you would like to report a violation, please contact the city’s Code Enforcement Office to make a complaint.
1. The Code Enforcement Officer will investigate the complaint and determine if there is a violation.
2. In the event there is a violation, the Code Enforcement Officer will attempt to make contact with owner and/or tenant through mail or on site notice. The Owner/Tenant will have 10 days from the date of the letter/on site notice (certain violations may have different time frame), to comply.
3. The owner/tenant may contact Code Enforcement with any question or concerns regarding the violation during the 10 days.
4. If the violation has not been brought into compliance after the 10th day, the Code Enforcement Officer will file a citation through the courts. The fines for City ordinance violations are up to $2000 per day for each day the violation exists. Some violations are also considered a misdemeanor in addition to the possible fine. Liens being placed against the property are also possibilities for properties that have repeated violations and/or abatement has occurred.
It is not the intent of the City to issue citations, but to gain compliance with City codes for better harmony within the community.
